The Musings of an Elective Orphan

Saying YES to life – even if you f**k stuff up!

Germs... meh!

Germs… meh!

I’m blogging from my sick bed today – looking out of my window at all that glorious sunshine, and wishing I could be doing something more productive.  But that is a problem of mine, I am hopeless at resting when I need to.  I actually need something like this ‘virus of doom’ to force me into the foetal position for a few days, in order to genuinely switch off.  I am a very restless person, and probably not for all the right reasons.  I have a need to do many things at once; you could say I’m an achieve-oholic, needing to justify my presence on planet earth with ‘look how much stuff I can get done’!  But although I might get burnt out now and again, I am at least proud to be saying yes to life.

Opposite ends of the spectrum!

Opposite ends of the spectrum!

I have people around me in my life that, although they are friends, I would dearly love to kick up the arse, because they say ‘leave me alone’ to life, burying their heads in the sand.    And they will come unstuck sooner or later, because life is all around us, it is not something that you can run from.  I’m not saying there is a right way, or a wrong way, perhaps its more of a spectrum.  But I am saying that life is what you make of it, and even if you try and you fail, at least you have made a move.  So perhaps failure itself isn’t so bad, because at least it was an attempt.  I think when I am old and looking back on my life I am more likely to regret the things I never attempted, rather than the things that I tried but screwed up.

p.s. I recently published my first book, it’s memoir with a little psychology, and you can read the synopsis here.
